In early to mid-June the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will interview three candidates to fill the vacancy of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs and Director of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This position is pivotal to the campuses ability to continue its long tradition of recruiting a highly qualified diverse student body.
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Enrollment, the Director will be responsible for providing overall direction, leadership, and coordination of the University’s undergraduate admissions programs and processes. The new Director will sustain the University’s exceptional admissions trajectory, lead a high-performing staff of admissions professionals in the continuous improvement of their methods and processes, provide a leadership voice in the institution’s ongoing internal conversation about the ideal composition of its undergraduate student body, and inspire outstanding prospective students and their families to consider Berkeley. Given the changing demographics of the state and nation’s citizenry and the increasing globalization of the academy, Berkeley is positioned to be a leading voice for the role of public universities in the 21st century. As such, the Director will have a unique opportunity to influence the admission and recruitment policies of this premier university and by extension, all of public higher education.
The UC Berkeley Office of Undergraduate Admissions aim is to identify, recruit, select, and enroll academically exceptional students, and those who will thrive in and contribute to Berkeley’s intellectual climate and vibrant, diverse community. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions handles admission for all undergraduate students, both freshmen and transfers. Major responsibilities of the Director include leadership and management of admissions programs, coordination of admissions research, and articulation of strategies related to the recruitment and selection of excellent students who will be a good match with Berkeley. The Director manages an office of about 45 professionals and support staff, along with over 70 external readers hired during the reading season, with a current annual budget of approximately $2.6 million.
