Hello ASUC Senators,
As you know, the Student Technology Council (STC) is a student-led advisory group founded to identify and prioritize students’ information technology needs and opportunities, in support of UC Berkeley’s mission.
This year one of our activities is a Web application competition that we have named Code for Cal, where students will use their creativity and skills to develop Web and mobile applications designed to improve the campus experience.
To help us guide our competitors, we are seeking your suggestions about the kinds of applications that would improve the services that you offer to the student body. When have you wanted to say to a student “We’ve got an app for that!” only to realize that you don’t?  We are looking for small ideas that can make great improvements to preexisting services or new, innovative ideas that will support the future of student services on campus. As Senators of UC Berkeley’s student government, you are in tune with the needs of the students the best. Accordingly, you have the potential to create the greatest impact by providing us with your ideas. We would appreciate receiving any proposals you have for applications that can address the current needs of the students.
Here are a few guiding questions:
1.    Is there a service or application that is currently used that can be re-optimized or built upon to increase performance or be more user-friendly?
2.    Is there a service or application that would benefit the students that does not exist currently?
3.    Generally, is there an application or technology service that you would like to see available here at Cal?
Please have a look at the Proposals page on the STC website ( to see details of the Web Application competition we organized last spring and the winning application ideas.
Please email your suggestions to by Friday, December 2 along with the following details.
–       Phone number
–       Willingness to work with students as the potential functional owner
–       Your suggestions/proposals
We look forward to hearing from you!
